About the Artist

sandra martin - Biography

Sandra Martin, oil painter and a native Southwesterner

I was born in El Paso, Texas and am a 5th generation Texan, now living in Lincoln, New Mexico. We live in an adobe with thick walls, high ceilings, and an abundance of charm. It was built in 1865 and hosted Billy The Kid for 27 nights at the sheriff's invitation.

The southwest is truly my home and nothing compares to the scenery.

My painting career began when I lived in Santa Fe in early 2000. I was overwhelmed by all of the amazing artwork and beautiful country that surrounded Santa Fe. At some point I was inspired to pick up a paint brush and give it a try.

Not knowing the first thing about the mechanics and technical aspect of painting, I took lessons.  After a year of study I felt that my work was on a par with other artists in the area.  To test the water in 2011, I entered the Arts International Show competition in El Paso and all three of my entries were accepted and two won awards.   In 2017, I entered the show and three of my paintings were accepted, and one of them won an award.  This year I won first place in oil painting at the Ruidoso Art Festival.  It was quite an honor to receive it with the quality of painters in the show.

So, now it’s time to branch out and show my work online so that others can view it and, hopefully, appreciate my efforts.

Living in the area of Lincoln and Capitan, nearby the town of Ruidoso, the country offers a variety of beautiful changing colors throughout the year, all which serve as constant inspirations for my paintings.
